We have been blessed with the opportunity to work with Ashara! Here is our interview with them where we got to know them better!
Tell us about yourself! What should people know about you?
First and foremost, I would like people to know that I’m from Los Angeles. I am very proud to be from the city! I would follow that by saying I do not like to be boxed in. I love to experiment with sounds and all levels of creativity. Most importantly, I’m proud of what I have accomplished and what I have overcome not just as an artist but in life.
How long have you been making music and what or who inspired you to do so?
I have been dabbling in music since about seventeen years old. I did not push to be fully committed until around twenty. I would say I was inspired by a variety of people but absolutely Queen Latifah, Mary J Blige, and Jill Scott.
We are aware not everyone makes music the same. What is your creative process like?
I don’t always create the same way. I believe different methods bring out different emotions. The only thing I would say is consistent for me is if I cannot create a visual in my head at that moment then I can’t stand behind the record. When I am listening to beats they have to invoke something in me. I have to feel or see something before I can even put words or a melody to it.
Is there any advice you would give to upcoming artists?
1. Stop being so scared! You either want to do this or you don’t! The nerves are normal. They are natural and will subside as you get comfortable, but you can’t get comfortable if you don’t keep practicing. Keep messing up. Keep putting yourself out there.
2. Stop seeking validation and support from your friends and family! More often than not they are the last to get on board. You have to believe in yourself and you have to stand ten toes down on your dream. Everybody else will catch on later!
3. If you want it, go get it!
Who would you say is the best artist of all time?
I think this is a loaded question and it’s very hard to answer. If I had to say one person, it would absolutely be Teyana Taylor. Also, I have to mention Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx, Michael Jackson, and Chris Brown.
Where can people find you on social media?
