We have been blessed with the opportunity to work with Erica Cherry! Here is our interview with them where we got to know them better!
Tell us about yourself! What should people know about you?
I'm Erica Cherry! People should know that I've been releasing music into the creative commons for years. Some of it gets used a lot on YouTube. You might have heard some of it already! I also worked on some indie films and games before getting into indie pop.
How long have you been making music and what or who inspired you to do so?
I've been creating music for about nine years in total! I was inspired by Classical Composers like Schubert and Wagner. I also drew inspiration from film and game composers like Nobuo Uematsu, Marty O'Donnell, and others. More recently I've been inspired by artists who were big in the 80s and 90s like Madonna, Talking Heads, Janet Jackson and more!
We are aware not everyone makes music the same. What is your creative process like?
My background in soundtracks gives me a pretty structured creative process. I have an extensive demo and prewriting phase that happens in finale. I am classically trained so I like to work with the musical score first. Once I'm happy with the preview, the overall concept, and structure of the song, it moves to the production phase. This is where I apply higher quality plugins, get session work done, record vocals, and mix the track. The final step is sending it off to a mastering engineer.
Is there any advice you would give to upcoming artists?
Don't be like me where you made music for eight years without attaching your face and personality to it! Your hits can't benefit your career if they can't be connected to you as an artist.
Who would you say is the best artist of all time?
Franz Schubert is my favorite.
