Meet Roc Kartel

Updated: Aug 28

We have been blessed with the opportunity to work with Roc Kartel! Here is our interview with them where we got to know them better!

Tell us about yourself! What should people know about you?

I'm a rapper, songwriter, and producer/engineer from PG County, Maryland. I have a unique sound and a unique flow that a lot of artists don't have. My voice and my delivery speaks for itself. I also want people to know that when you listen to my music to listen closely because I drop gems while I'm riding the melody. I come to the table with real life perspectives but still can make a song really catchy. My ups and downs in my life built me up to the man and artist I am today so I just want people to feel that when they get to know me as an artist.

How long have you been making music and what or who inspired you to do so?

I have been making music since I was thirteen years old. It runs in my bloodline. Since a young age, my dad had a studio in his house in Brooklyn, New York. My brother, my sister, and I would be in there making music. My dad will play a beat or instrument and we'd write songs to it. It's also how we bonded.

We are aware not everyone makes music the same. What is your creative process like?

I usually make my own instrumentals or I'll collab with someone and write the song as I'm recording it. My whole process is based on energy and feeling. I don't rush music nor chase it. I let it come to me. Once I finish recording myself (unless I go to a studio other than my own) I go ahead and start the mixing and mastering process. Sometimes I finish it within the same day but for the most part I don't record and mix the same day just to give my ears a break.

Is there any advice you would give to upcoming artists?

Stay true to your craft. Be consistent. I believe the most important advice is to learn the business. Learn about your royalties, copyrights, publishing, sync, and release strategies.

Who would you say is the best artist of all time?

Michael Jackson. In the booth and on the stage, he had the ability to capture an audience like no other. He was one of the few artists that people really fainted for when they saw him live.
